Secure IT Asset Disposal & E-Waste Recycling

Old workstations, dead servers, drawers full of mystery drives. NTS picks up your retired IT assets, destroys the data on them, and routes the hardware to a state-certified recycling partner. Certificate of destruction in your hand when we’re done.

The Closet of Old Computers Is a Real Risk

Most businesses have one. Stack of old laptops in a back room. A pile of drives someone “meant to format”. The desktop that ran the front desk five years ago, still under a desk. Every one of those is a data breach waiting to happen — and an environmental fine waiting to land — if the wrong person walks off with them or someone tosses them in a dumpster.

NTS makes the closet go away. Properly. With paperwork.

How NTS IT Asset Disposal Works

Step 1

Inventory & Pickup
Tell us what you have — rough count of workstations, servers, drives, monitors, network gear. We schedule pickup from your Northern Michigan location. For larger lots, we bring totes; for smaller jobs, we just load and go.

Step 2

Data Destruction
Functional drives get wiped using a NIST 800-88 compliant method. Non-functional drives or drives from devices that can’t be wiped (failed laptops, encrypted drives without the key) get physically destroyed — punched, shredded, or de-platterized depending on type.

Step 3

State-Certified Recycling
The hardware itself goes to a Michigan state-certified e-waste recycler. They handle the actual material recovery and disposal in compliance with Michigan’s electronic waste statute. We don’t ship your hardware out of state or overseas.

Step 4

Certificate of Destruction
You get a written certificate listing every serialized item, the destruction method used, the date, and the technician who handled it. This is what auditors, cyber insurance carriers, and compliance officers want to see.

What We Accept

  • Workstations, laptops, all-in-ones
  • Servers, NAS units, SANs
  • Loose hard drives, SSDs, M.2 modules
  • USB sticks, SD cards, backup tapes
  • Monitors (LCD and older CRT)
  • Network switches, routers, access points
  • Firewalls and UPS units
  • Printers, copiers, scanners
  • Phones, tablets, VoIP handsets
  • Cables, power supplies, accessories

Compliance & Documentation

Proper disposal isn’t optional for most regulated businesses. The certificate we provide helps you demonstrate due care under:

  • HIPAA — for dental, optical, and any practice handling PHI
  • FTC Safeguards Rule — for dealerships, lenders, accountants, tax preparers
  • PCI DSS — for businesses that handle cardholder data
  • FACTA / Red Flags Rule — for any business that handles consumer financial info
  • SOX — for public-company subsidiaries and audit-sensitive shops
  • Michigan electronic waste statute — for everyone disposing of business e-waste

Why a State-Certified Recycler Matters

A lot of “free e-waste pickup” services aren’t actually recyclers — they’re brokers. They take your hardware and ship it overseas where it ends up in landfills that poison groundwater and expose workers to heavy metals. NTS works with a Michigan state-certified facility that follows R2 / e-Stewards material handling standards. Your old laptops actually get dismantled and the materials actually get recovered. No dumpster runs, no overseas mystery, no liability tail for you.
